I have Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition. If that is of any use, should I upgrade to VB6?

Actually, vb6 would be a downgrade from vb.net 2005. Stick with simple apps. Get used to both console applications and windows forms.

For VB 2005 check HERE

This link is also available on the Visual Studio Start Page. The link is : "Learn Visual Basic". I like it since it starts from scratch (By scratch I mean stuff like what is programming). Hope its helpful.

VB6 is actually the downgrade as aNiXtEr said. .NET was released later. If you want to learn VB6, I would suggest MSDN itself. That's where I had learnt most of my VB6 from and it was very helpful

Hey cheers dude i'll check out that site if .NET is the lateist software I think I'll just stick with that. I suppose thats industry standered VD 2005 (well as industry standered as you can get with anything to do with computing)

Actually there are a lot of programming languages, Basic, Fortran, C, C++, Java, and many many more. MicroSoft would love that VB2005 become the Standard, but it has a ways to go, and since they are already talking about VB9 . . .

Visual Basic 1 came out around 1989, and have been upgraded et al 7 times since. VB6 was two versions ago. VB2005 is the latest also known as VB8 VB Express is the main portion of VB8, but if you are going to get serious you will need to upgrade to VS 2005.

Visual Studio is the actual product which allows you to use a number of different languages to program in the latest processors etc.

Start at the bottom of the Start Page in VB2005 Express, click on the Visual Basic for Beginners link, this is a series of videos - really great, get you up and going info.
