3d graphics, is there a special way to do 3d graphics

i was wondering if there was a special way to do 3d graphics like when you dimension the variable as graphics would you dimension it as something else?

well yes and no... are you wirting your own 3d routines or are you using DirectX or OpenGL to do your 3D?

how do i use directX or OpenGL and import them into my game? could i use google sketchup?
