Well.. Run into a problem here with a site I've been working on.

1. News agency submits the news in IPTC 7901 v5 format. Whatever that is. (IPTC is smth like International Press Telecommunications Council)
2. I get the files uploaded to site.
3. Could use a PHP coded script to parse the incoming files and insert the required information to mysql base.

Well.. There's a problem. PHP seems not to be supporting this fileformat in any way (well.. except in JPG image files - iptcparse function in particular). And so I'm pretty much screwed here.

Thankfully I can solve my problem another way, but just for the future reference - has anyone run into this file format before and if so, what did you come up with:)

Why does this not work:
http://www.php.net/manual/en/function.iptcparse.php
?

Have you tried that yet?

iptcparse() seems to be available for only JPG files and only those that have that APP13 extension tags included, but in this case the IPTC file is ascii file with mostly text and some extended chars specified by the 7901 standard. But I was kinda hoping that PHP would support the whole thing. I'd hate to start writing somesort of parser... (and by doing that - reinventing the bycicle. I'm too lazy for that:P)

QUOTE

The IPTC launched the News Industry Text Format project in the early 1990s when members began looking for a successor to ANPA 1312 and IPTC 7901. These two formats were standardized in 1979 and provided a common platform for news services and newspapers to share content
