Ok, do I have to create tables using the actual access program? Or can I run an SQL command via ODBC with CREATE TABLE in it?

I should think that you would be able to, I have never used access myself but with oracle and sql server you can do that throught the ODBC using the c++ API, so I'd assume that php would work as well.

why do you have to run an access DB? Why would you want to do it in PHP? You need NT to run access so you might as well do it in .asp

1. I don't know asp nor is this job worth me learning anything MS has to offer. The server is an NT but he has PHP loaded.
2. I don't have Access or I would. Why, do you have access? wink2.gif

Persuade the client to install MySQL on his NT server. no hassle with odbc and such when creating web solutions...

:-)

If problems arise, exoprt sql data from access and get it into MySQL and still use php-mysql combo smile.gif

No, no, you guys aren't following me here. He will not install 2 db servers on one system. It's got tons of accounts on it, I'm sure it can't handle all those programs going at once. I'm trying to get the guy I'm working for to just co-locate a server there though (he has like 30 clients). If that happens I'll have mysql but for now it's odbc all the way.

I have never connected to an access DB with PHP but it can be done. If you don't have access how are you going to run an access DB? The DB doesn't exist on the server until you create it, it's not like MySQL you need to actually create an access DB and upload it to the server (or at least that is how I have always done it). When I worked for Intel the server was local and I could use the access DB through the network or connect to it through the intranet via asp, but I never heard of anyone who was creating the tables on the fly.

I'll call someone I used to work with and ask him, if it's possible.

^^ hahaha, that's my question! wink2.gif

Thanks for making the call. I think it can be done but I'm not totally sure. Right now I've got the server guy making a DB and seting up the DSN for it, but yeah, I don't know if I can create tables on the fly, hence my original question. biggrin.gif
