Basically i need to get a hold of Visual Basic 2005 Express (which is free anyway), but i cant find it because microsoft has gone and changed their site for 2008 Express.

I did try 2008 Express but when trying to open my project i was confronted with the warning that after converting to 2008 it cant be opened by anything earlier, which is complete crap.

Does anyone know where i can get 2005 Express?

2005 Express Download(From Microsoft)

Found it, they still have it on there express edition site. Just have to look under previous versions.

Just wondering why you don't want to convert? 2008 seems good at targeting previous version of the framework

I've also found that Sharp Develop is a good IDE. It uses the same format as Visual Studio 2005.

2008 is no good to me because my college uses 2005 and i am in the middle of coursework.

I would probably upgrade to 2008 if i wanted to do anything outside of college.

Thanks very much for your help.

Does that really surprise you? I mean... Versions of Offce, which are [/i]supposed[/i] to be backwards-compatible have trouble sometimes. And when you consider that the differences between VS2005 and VS2008 are reasonably large, it wasn't surprising to me when C# 2005 choked on a C# 2008 project.

That all being said, having a 2005 and 2008 side-by-side on your computer will work just fine, if you're wanting to play with 2008.

And what school do you go to? I don't think I've heard of any that teach VB...
