Could anybody help me with a java based game I want to make? Possibly a little pong like game, something simple. If you could help, that would be great. As I said, I have the latest JDK and am looking into tutorials online... Thanks to anybody who helps, my goal is, in a few years, to begin developing a MMORPG. Thanks.

I'm getting Microsoft Visual C++ Express... I will get accustomed to it. I have done a bit, not much at all, but a bit with C#.

There are alot of game programming tutorials with C/C++ depending on your preferences.

Dev-C++ and Code::blocks are both good IDE's.
Allegro and OpenGl are some libraries you might want to look into. I just think if you are looking to go that route with MMORPG's and Gaming period - you will find more information with C++

I suggested looking at the other threads to see the responses received by people who asked for help making a MMORPG. I wasn't trying to refer him to technical reading material. smile.gif

The reason MMORPG tutorials are either really bad or really complex is because writing a MMORPG is a larger task than you can likely imagine. It's not something you can just go do on a weekend.

If you believe in God remember that it took him 6 days to create this MMORPG we call life, and he didn't even do any debugging.

If you want to try pong in C++ you could try my blog (check the link in my signature)

IMO, you're better off studying console applications for a while before you move on to program graphics though. (At least until you can firmly grasp stuff such as loops, functions and classes)

Good luck!

Pong in Java is very simple.

Two main things you should need to understand are drawing (like on an applet) and key events.
If this sounds new to you, I think its best to first learn Java and its API.

Personally i think Java is good enough to create solid games.
