I'm learning vb.net and found this in "Beginning Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition - From Novice To Professional (2006)". Just thought i'd share it with you guys

"Because the majority of the world’s population is human, and you’re reading this book because you have a life and thus don’t want to learn C++, let me explain it another way."

Seriously i'm not trying to diss anyone but i thought that was kinda funny

No matter what language you choose, there will always be someone who "hates" it. Take me for instance, I am not a fan of Java, or any other interrupted language, for serious application development.

Bashing a language through some physical medium is not unheard of, but I find it very unprofessional. Personally, if I read something like that in a book, it would lose a lot of credibility in my mind. Not to mention the title of the book...

It's amusing, but makes me distrust the author. I would teach a beginner any number of languages before C++. However, a professional programmer should be comfortable in a wide array of languages. It implies the author is intimidated by one, which is not a good sign.

Now, if he were bashing COBOL, he could be forgiven... wink2.gif

yeah i gotta admit, that though I'm almost finished the book, i certainly don't feel very "professional", although that could just be me tongue.gif

I've always laughed at books that promise to make you a code demon, "Become a c++ master in 20 days". Ummm. Yeah. Right.

Taking a cheap shot at anything makes one seriously question the credibility and quality of the particular author. I would go as far to discredit the entire book just due to his reasoning for lashing out at other languages, which only amplifies his narrowmindedness of vb
