Thanks to recommendations herein, I downloaded code::blocs v8.02, the one with the MinGW bundle that detects the GCC compiler and sets it as default, easing the installation. I'm finding the 64 page user manual a bit difficult as it presupposes knowledge I lack.

All I've found from my own efforts is:
1. this 3yr old tutorial translated from French
2. this Wiki site, and
3. formentioned user manual
4. various setup and specific function tutorials, most outdated.

Is anyone familiar with a singular, big picture, conceptual tutorial that would coddle me through my initial trails and tribulations with code::blocks?

I don't know a thing about code::blocks, but here is a tutorial that explains some of the basics of programming. It's for Ruby, but the terms are pretty universal to the languages, so this will help you become familiar with them.

Thanks, OliveOyl. I'm reading it now. Oh, FWIW should anyone be in a similar situation I found a particularly well written article on GCC architecture (and compilers in general) from Red Hat Magazine.

Until my next query . . .

Though it is for MSVC++ 2008, and the example is in C++, I have a tutorial on this site that might help you get used to how the IDE works, though since you said you have programmed in other languages, it might be too beginner-centric for you.
