Hello. I am looking for a developer who can help design a website that will allow users to query a server database and create their own custom reports.

Currently we produce a hard copy report each month and would like to give our clients the option of producing their own custom reports online.

The hard copy report is generated using Access. Typical reports show year to year comparisons by area.

As you can tell I have no web based programming experience and not even sure what language etc this project would entail. Any input would be appreciated.

There are several options available, but they all depend on what you currently have implemented.

What webservice or hosting service are you currently using if any?? Is it .Net capable ?

If you already have a Microsoft Based web service provider, do you have a SQL Server database as well?

What version of Access are you currently using ? If it's below 2007 then you might be able to get away with a data access page depending on the report etc...

Are all of your users on Windows based machines ?

Do they all have Office installed ?

If you're on a purely Microsoft platform all around with .Net web hosting then its ASP.Net. Whether you upsize the Access database to SQL Server depends on the support from your host.
