Hello,

I'm really wanting to start up my own website, and I have the opportunity to get either Microsoft Sharepoint Designer or Macromedia Studio MX 2004 for REALLY cheap.... like $20 cheap. Which is the better program for a beginner? I've heard they're both pretty complex if you're just starting out, but I'm a quick learner and will have people nearby to help me out.

Any ideas?? Thank you!

well you really don't want to ues either if your starting out.

i consider WYSWYG editors a middle mans game. at first you want to learn with the simplest so you see just your code. the middle guys use these editors to quicken their code, but most experts right by hand.

i've never used sharepoint but ms has a bad history of nasty code. not saying dweaver is exceptional but its better.

Notepad? I know, HTML tags can be scary, but for a decent page you only really need to know a handful of them. The scariest html is produced by tools, like the ones you mention, human written can be reasonably easy to follow.

If you want to do a web site, you will have to know some html no matter which tool you use. I'd go with an editor with some web page intelligence to start out. This seems a good list: http://www.roseindia.net/opensource/html-e...en-source.shtml

My personal recommendations - stay away from WYSIWYG editors. You may, in time, be able to whip out an attractive page with one, but when something needs fixed and you're staring at generated code with little or no knowledge of what it all means, you're screwed.

Keep it simple.

Notepad++ - Excellent FREE editor.
W3Schools - Excellent FREE beginner tutorials.
