Hey everyone,

I was glancing at the different tutorials that are on DIC, and I realized that we have the second most tutorials on the site. As of this post we had 71 tuts, while C/C++ had 111. I think we can catch them if people keep submitting though.

It was just cool to see how far the PHP community has come over the past few months.

It would be interesting if books which teach you PHP would contain and some exercises or ideas of projects which implicate intense using of the PHP programming, just like those for C++ .

Yeah I've always wanted to see one of those too. Some practice projects or something would be great. There are a few good PHP programming books out there though. Not a bad idea for an e-book or something though.

Well, the experts in PHP (or even teachers) should think about this biggrin.gif . Theory is relatively easy...practice kills us sometimes.

Hmmm . . . now I'm thinking . . .

I definitely agree that practice is the way to go, and that you won't get better unless you just do it. Maybe I'll brainstorm some ideas.

Thought I'd throw it out there that my favorite coding book (any language) is Programming PHP, by Rasmus Lerdorf. It explains PHP in the context of real-world apps, and has a lot of shortcuts that really only the founder of the language would know.

I've looked through that book at B&N and I've wanted to pick it up, just a bit pricey. I don't know what it is with computer books but they really lay it in on you with the price. Guess they figure you'll recover the cost with the knowledge, but still.

If there's a recommendation though I'm definitely going to check it out.

I'd like to see us make get up past C/C++, but I think it would take a serious effort from the whole community to get up there. Maybe we should have an unofficial tutorial writing week or something. lulz.

That is an awesome idea akozlik! Count me in.

Btw. That tutorial I made is basically finished - it's a blackjack system that works 100%, I just need to add the 'split' functionality and it's done smile.gif

Very awesome. Yeah, maybe we'll organize something like that. I'll start a thread right now and see if there's any response. I'm down though. We're only like, 30 behind, so if we could get 10 people or so to write 3 tutorials, we'll be well on our way.
